Walter Voglmayr

Trombone

Walter Voglmayr was born in 1973 in Ried im Innkreis. In 1986 he was admitted to the Bruckner Conservatory Linz to study with Prof. Friedrich Loimayr, in 1988 he moved to the Vienna University of Music to Prof. Horst Küblböck, and in 1993 he continued his training at the Freiburg University of Music under Branimir Slokar.

In 1996 he was engaged as principal trombonist at the Bavarian State Opera in Munich, and from 1997 to 2000 he was principal trombonist of the Berlin Radio Symphony Orchestra. Since 2000, Walter Voglmayr has been principal trombonist of the Vienna Symphony, and since 2012 he holds a guest professorship at the University of Arts Graz/Oberschützen.

A passionate chamber musician, he is a member of Pro Brass, the Austrian Brass Connection and the Vienna Symphony Jazz Project. He has collaborated with renowned ensembles such as the Vienna Philharmonic, Concentus Musicus Wien, the Gustav Mahler Youth Orchestra, Ensemble Modern Frankfurt, Klangforum Wien, the Chapelle Royale Paris, the Gulbenkian Orchestra Lisbon and the Saito Kinen Orchestra of Seiji Ozawa. As a soloist he has performed with the Vienna Chamber Orchestra, the Ensemble de la Musique de Toulon and at Wien Modern, among others.
